In a captivating initiative, students from Wadebridge School embarked on a journey to uncover the secrets of Cornwall's thriving hospitality and tourism industry. But here's where it gets intriguing: it all started with a simple, yet delicious, seafood masterclass.
The Mackerel Magic
Year nine and ten pupils from the school's food technology department were treated to a hands-on experience. They learned the art of filleting Cornish mackerel, a skill that's not only practical but also a gateway to understanding the region's culinary heritage. After mastering the filleting technique, the students grilled their catch on barbecues, adding a touch of outdoor adventure to the learning experience.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Sue Willmott, the school's careers advisor, emphasized the impact of such activities. "They inspire our young people to explore careers in hospitality and equip them with skills that transcend traditional boundaries," she said. This initiative is part of Wadebridge School's dedication to introducing 14-15-year-olds to the vibrant world of hospitality and tourism in Cornwall.

Paul Dodd, operations director of The St Enodoc Hotel at the Paul Ainsworth Collection, emphasized the importance of teaching young people about sustainability, local produce, and the joy of simple, great food. "Hospitality is about more than long hours; it's about fostering community, unleashing creativity, and creating lasting connections," he said.
