Filmmakers' Future Projects: From Time Travel to Animated Adventures (2025)

Get ready for a thrilling journey into the minds of some of the most talented filmmakers at the 69th BFI London Film Festival (LFF)! We're about to dive into the stories behind three captivating films and uncover what's next for these creative visionaries.

Unraveling Time and Space with 'Rose of Nevada'

Mark Jenkin, the director, and Denzil Monk, the producer, have crafted a time-bending drama set in the picturesque fishing villages of Cornwall, England. George MacKay and Callum Turner find themselves trapped in a time loop, but this film is more than just a sci-fi adventure. It delves into the coexistence of different worlds, highlighting the often-overlooked poverty that contrasts the privileged lives so frequently portrayed in film and TV.

"Cornwall is a place where these worlds collide," Monk explains. "It's a unique setting that allows us to explore these social issues in a compelling way."

Jenkin adds, "Our film is a period piece, yet it's set in the present day too. The 1990s might seem like ancient history to some, but it's a stark reminder of how much has changed. We have a duty to showcase these changes and the challenges people faced then and now."

And life imitated art in a rather eerie way. "Denzil experienced a scene from the film in real life! Water dripping through his roof onto his bed. It's like the story came to life, and now I'm worried about what else Mark might write!"

A Belgian Girl's Adventure in Japan: 'Little Amélie'

Maïlys Vallade, co-director, and Claire La Combe, producer, take us on a whimsical journey with 'Little Amélie.' This animated gem is an adaptation of Amélie Nothomb's novel, 'The Character of Rain,' and it's already making waves globally.

"We've sold the film to over 20 countries, including the US, Spain, China, and even Japan! It was a challenge to convince Japan, as it's a French film about their culture, but we're thrilled they embraced it," La Combe shares.

Vallade highlights the film's unique visual style, "We wanted to express sensitivity and light through vibrant colors and an atypical animation style without lines. It's a visually stunning experience."

Vallade is eager to continue directing, sharing, "I have so many original ideas and emotions I want to bring to life. I love symbolic and philosophical stories, and I'm drawn to nostalgia."

Inside Kim Novak's World: 'Vertigo'

Alexandre O'Philippe's documentary gives us an intimate look into the life of screen icon Kim Novak. "She's a private person, but once she lets you in, you're family. She's warm and friendly, and I never felt like I was with an icon. She's just a person and a friend," O'Philippe reveals.

But Novak can also embrace her iconic status when needed. "She has this Hollywood Golden Age aura that's captivating. It's a glamor we don't see anymore, and it's something we should cherish, as it's fading away with time," he adds.

O'Philippe has several projects in the works, including a Nosferatu project, another Vertigo film, and even a mafia-themed documentary. "There's so much more! I might even work on an Evil Dead project. It's an exciting time!"

And there you have it, a glimpse into the future of these talented filmmakers. What do you think of their projects? Are you excited to see what they come up with next? Share your thoughts in the comments below!"
